Deconstructing a painting from the golden age
As an exercise we had the task to reconstruct and later deconstruct the “Interior of Amaliegade by Wilhelm Bendz, 1829”. I worked in collaboration with Nicholas Alex Ghielmini [SWI] and the images were all produced using V-ray for Rhino with adequate render materials we made ourselves.
Firstly, we had to recreate the setting in a 3D environment, here we used reverse perspective to proportion the floorplan and elevations.
The image is composed by the golden section and the perspective lines all connects with the frame corners. To achieve the desired lighting, in the reconstruction we had to tweak the Global Illumination (GI) to 320% and increase the render suns radius by 200 times to have the proper smooth shadows.
As for the deconstruction we changed the perspective and tried to showcase how the apartment might have looked from the opposite side of the room. We estimated how it may have been connected to the rest of the building, by looking at old plans of similar buildings.
